Do you grind your teeth?
The Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ) is the jaw joint right in front of each ear. It is where the lower jaw (mandible) hinges to the skull on each side of your face. The relationship of muscle structure determines the position the jaw rests when the teeth come together in closing (occlusion). Pain can be the result when the joint is not working correctly. Habitual clenching or bruxing (grinding) teeth together can precipitate TMJ dysfunction. We perform a complete examination of the TMJ area with every comprehensive exam. Dr. Weishaar will make her diagnosis, along with a referral if she feels this is necessary. On many occasions a nightguard is recommended for daily or night-time wear.
We can prescribe treatment recommendations for this very common problem.
